Local Birds Hand Appliqué Workshop by Momshoo

1 Session Workshop | Total of 3 hours [Exclusive one-time only event]

Pre-requisite: Participants who have done hand-sewing before.

This workshop will introduce the textile craft of hand-appliqué to create fabric pictures. Appliqué is a special branch of embroidery where small fabric patches are added onto a bigger fabric base. We will share tips and techniques including our favourite appliqué stitches and transferring designs to fabric.

This traditional textile craft (the technique dates back to the ancient Egyptian period!) is a versatile medium with everyday applications such as for mending holes in clothes and other fabric items.

Create your own masterpieces based on our designs inspired by local birds in Singapore. Designs will be provided during the session and as a take-home pattern sheet for further explorations beyond the workshop.

All materials and sewing tools will be provided during the session.
(You are welcome to bring your own fabric scraps to add to your selection!)

What You’ll Learn:

  • What fabrics are most appropriate for appliqué
  • Hand-embroidery stitches specific to appliqué: blanket stitch and whip stitch
  • Other decorative hand-embroidery stitches e.g. running stitch, back stitch, seed stitch
  • How to translate and transfer designs to fabric

Classes start on time, please arrive 5 minutes earlier if possible.
