Internationally renown Japanese master of draping and fashion design lecturer, Shingo Sato who founded his own Transformational Reconstruction (TR) and cutting art techniques will be holding his 2-day only workshop at FMS. Level up your skills and pick up his innovative techniques in developing three-dimensional designs with his 4 popular workshops!
20th July, Sat (Day 1)
Time: 10am to 1pm
1. Basic Creative Moulage & Transformational Reconstruction (TR) Technique
What You’ll Learn
- Confidently drape directly on a dress form
- Learn to construct a dress block, followed by putting in the design lines, separating the panels and drafting each panel separately
- Joining the seams of various contrast panels to create a multi-panel dress
20th July, Sat (Day 1)
Time: 2pm to 5pm
2. Basic Origami Textile Techniques
What You’ll Learn
- Learn creative draping on a dress form using various origami shapes
- Incorporating origami shapes into the bodice design to add interesting dimension and structures
21st July, Sun (Day 2)
Time: 10am to 1pm
3. Creative Moulage (Advanced): 3D Dart Manipulation to Collar
What You’ll Learn
- Design and construct a variety of three-dimensional collars
- Implement different techniques for shaping and adding volume
- Integrate your sculpted collars into your garment designs
21st July, Sun (Day 2)
Time: 2pm to 5pm
4. Creative Moulage (Advanced): Squared Shoulder
What You’ll Learn
- Confidently drape fabric on a dress form
- Create a structured squared shoulder design
- Understand and implement key draping techniques
- Construct a top from your draped design
Materials required:
- Dressform
- 6 metres of Calico
- Cotton Fabrics: 12 metres (minimum in 1 colour/ design), 5 meters (in another colour/design)
- 5 rolls of Masking Tape (2cm width)
- Markers
- Ballpoint Pens

Japanese pattern artist and fashion design lecturer Shingo Sato holds worldwide pattern making seminars with TR Cutting School, which was founded by himself. The aesthetics of Shingo Sato’s extraordinary creations combine couture and architecture. In 2017 the master of pattern-innovation came to Germany for the first time. Shingo Sato's technique, called “Transformational Reconstruction Technique”, is a combination of two-dimensional cutting technique and three-dimensional draping on the bust.
